Three Boats Down, One To Go

Three down and one to go. This is the third boat that I have taken on to finish this winter and I have one more (at least one) to go. The first three boats were mostly built and I put a finish on them. The fourth boat is partly built and I'm going to have to put on my thinking cap for this one. The construction techniques are different from the way that I learned to make canoes so I'm going to have to learn some new tricks.

This boat came with an elaborate seat with rails to hold it in place, a back rest and a brace to hold the back rest. Dave came up with the design and built everything from scratch, including caning the seat and back rest. The hatch covers have magnets imbeded in the wood to match magnets in the deck to hold the covers in place. I've got all the coats of finish on the boat that she will get and the boat is quite a looker.

I'm taking her home this weekend and I'll talk with the owner about getting the last boat here for finishing. That boat hasn't been taken off of the forms so will not fit on top of my vehicles. I think we're going to rent a truck to get the boat here. I think we're going to wait until after the first of the year to start that project.
