Artist Profile
Joshua Lutz is a furniture maker based in Huntington Woods, Michigan.
My work reimagines classic designs with a modern twist, inspired by the clean lines and beautiful proportions of the Danish and Swedish modern furniture movements. Influenced by masters like George Nakashima, Mike Pekovich, and James Krenov, I create heirloom-quality pieces that integrate Michigan hardwoods with exotic accents. Through thoughtful collaboration with clients, makers and designers, I strive to craft functional, enduring pieces that evoke a sense of place and purpose, aiming to be cherished and passed down through generations.
A lifelong technologist with a passion for craftsmanship, I embarked on my journey into woodworking as a self-taught artisan. I believe people are happier when they interact with well-built furniture. With each piece of furniture, I aim to capture the essence of heirloom quality, blending modern sensibilities with classic styles.
My dedication to crafting bespoke furniture is driven by a desire to create pieces that are not just functional but also serve as a testament to fine craftsmanship. I believe that furniture should be more than a mere object; it should be a story, a part of one's heritage, passed down through generations. My work reflects this philosophy, with every creation bearing the hallmark of premium quality and meticulous attention to detail.
As an artisan, my journey is continually evolving, driven by a relentless pursuit of perfection and a deep respect for the materials I work with. Each piece of furniture I create is a reflection of my passion, a tangible expression of my commitment to creating lasting beauty and functionality.
