Bio

Adam Davies is a woodworker who lives in Detroit, Michigan. Previously a professional photographer and visual artist, he won a number of awards and held several prestigious artist residencies for his work. In summer 2024, he opened The Jetty Studio to focus on bespoke, contemporary furniture that fuses modern design with varied and unexpected historic references. Made with sustainable materials, his creations are crafted with traditional hand tooling techniques and rigorous attention to detail.

Artist Statement

I have always been passionate about architecture and the history of design, from the Baroque to Brutalism. As a photographer, I loved observing how buildings sat within the landscape. As a furniture maker, I remain deeply attentive to proportion, angles, the way in which pieces fit together and the overall shape they create. My style is elegant and clean, but is infused with unusual elements and moments of surprise that arise from the introduction of contrasting styles. All of my works are made with rigorous attention to craft, using sustainable materials and traditional hand tooling techniques that celebrate the natural beauty of the wood.
