Program Description:

Step into the world of innovative design with our Bent Lamination Class, where you’ll take the lead in creating a one-of-a-kind lamp. This course invites you to push the boundaries of traditional woodworking by designing and crafting a lamp that is as much a work of art as it is a functional piece. Using the versatile technique of bent lamination, you’ll learn to bend wood into dynamic, flowing shapes that reflect your unique artistic vision.

The course not only focuses on the physical creation of your lamp but also delves into the intricate design process. You’ll explore how form, function, and light intersect, guiding you to design a piece that harmonizes aesthetic appeal with practical lighting solutions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Conceptualize and design a unique lamp, focusing on the balance between form, function, and aesthetic appeal.

  • Explore the art of bent lamination, mastering the technique of bending wood into complex, imaginative shapes.

  • Learn to consider the interplay of light and shadow in your design, ensuring that your lamp enhances its environment both visually and functionally.

  • Develop a deep understanding of wood’s properties, allowing you to manipulate it creatively while maintaining structural integrity.

  • Gain hands-on experience in wiring and lighting integration, ensuring your lamp is not only beautiful but also fully functional.

  • Experiment with different materials and finishes, refining your design to achieve a professional, polished final product.

  • By the end of this course, you will have created a custom lamp that reflects your personal design philosophy, equipped with both the technical skills and artistic confidence to continue exploring the limitless possibilities of bent lamination in future projects.
