Program Description:
Embark on your woodworking journey with our Intro to Woodworking course, a 7-day intensive class designed to cover the fundamentals of woodworking, focusing on machine techniques. This course is ideal for beginners, with no prior experience required. With a maximum of 8 students, you'll receive personalized instruction in a fully equipped machine room.
Students will start by crafting a long grain cutting board, a project that introduces the essential skills of milling wood. As the course progresses, you'll explore a variety of joinery techniques, building the foundational knowledge needed for more complex projects. The course culminates in designing and constructing your own step stool, where you'll learn to create and execute detailed project plans.
Learning Objectives:
Understand and implement essential machine room safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
Gain hands-on experience with key woodworking machinery, including the jointer, planer, table saw, band saw, drill press, belt sanders, and palm routers.
Learn to properly mill rough sawn lumber to prepare it for any woodworking project.
Master basic joinery techniques using machines, including mortise and tenons, dovetails, dados, rabbets, and dominos to create strong, durable joints.
Develop the ability to read and interpret woodworking plans, providing a clear path to successful project completion.
Explore the process of designing your own project and creating a thorough, executable plan to bring your ideas to life.
Discover various furniture finishing techniques and learn how to apply them properly for a professional, polished result.
By the end of the course, you'll have gained a strong foundation in woodworking, complete with your own hand-crafted step stool and the confidence to tackle future woodworking projects
