Program Description:
Dive into the world of Mid Century Modern design with our Mid Century Marvel: Funky Footstool Workshop. In this two-day course, you'll learn the foundational skills of woodworking and upholstery by constructing a stylish and functional footstool. This project is perfect for beginners looking to gain hands-on experience in both crafts.
On the first day, you'll start by cutting and shaping the base of your stool using the bandsaw and spindle sander. You’ll master the essentials of reading wood grain and laying out patterns to maximize the strength of your stool, all while learning the fundamentals of machine room safety. Assembly of the base will be done using a Festool Domino, ensuring a sturdy and precise fit.
The second day is dedicated to upholstery, where you’ll create and install a simple, yet eye-catching cushion using wrap-and-staple methods. Bring 1 yard of your favorite fabric to personalize your footstool - everything else will be provided. With a maximum of 8 students, you'll receive personalized instruction in a fully equipped woodworking machine room.
Learning Objectives:
Gain an understanding of grain direction and learn how to select wood for strong, durable legs.
Learn to properly use a bandsaw to cut pieces according to a pattern.
Master the use of a table saw jig to square up mating pieces for precise joinery.
Assemble the base of your stool using a Festool Domino, ensuring a clean and secure fit.

Master the technique of wrapping and stapling fabric for a professional, polished appearance.
Complete your project by installing the upholstered cushion onto the base of your stool.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with a funky, handcrafted Mid Century Modern footstool, equipped with the skills and confidence to tackle more woodworking and upholstery projects.
