Bench Joinery

5 Days: Monday - Friday, August 18th-22nd, 2025, 8AM - 5 PM

Tuition: $1,200

Program Description:

We will learn a variety of joints, their strengths and weaknesses and how to implement them into furniture making and design. We will first construct a simple box to store all of our new sample joints then get right into the art and technique of wood joinery. This will be a combination of hand tool and machine joinery techniques. With a maximum of 8 students, you'll receive personalized instruction in a fully equipped woodworking college with state-of-the-art work benches.

You will learn the following joints:

  • Dovetail

  • Half-blind Dovetail

  • Sliding Dovetail

  • Finger Joints

  • Mortise and Tenon

  • Through Wedged Tenon

  • Through Tenon with Dado

  • Through Locked Key Mortise and Tenon

  • Twin Tenon

  • Bridle Joint/Half Lap Joint

Learning Objectives:

  • Cutting techniques

  • Tool and layout selection

  • Sharpening

  • Adhesive selection

  • Understanding the use of different domestic hardwoods

  • Joint selection

  • Proper machine setup for repeatable results

Tool List: (We provide all the tools, but you are also welcome to bring your own)

  • Marking Gauge

  • Marking Knife

  • Square (4”-6”)

  • Dovetail Saw

  • Crosscut Saw

  • Bevel Gauge

  • Measuring Tape

Attendance Requirements: Students must attend all days
