Program Description:
Bring your woodworking project to completion in our Finishing Touch: Wood Finishing Basics Workshop. This hands-on course is designed to help you achieve that perfect finishing touch, whether it’s a nearly complete project or one you’re planning ahead. Join us as we demystify the wide range of wood finishes available, guiding you through how to select the ideal finish to enhance your project’s natural beauty.
Throughout this workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of surface preparation, the correct methods for applying wipe-on finishes, and techniques to reach your desired aesthetic. Students are encouraged to bring an unfinished project from home, which they’ll work on during class. Note: This workshop covers wipe-on finishes only and will not include spray applications.
Learning Objectives:
Develop an understanding of various wood finishes commonly used in fine furniture, and learn how to select the best finish for your specific project.
Master the process of properly sanding and prepping furniture to ensure a smooth, lasting finish.
Learn how to mix, store, and apply shellac, a versatile and beautiful finish.
Gain proficiency in applying finishes like Walrus Oil cutting board oil, furniture wax and Danish oil
Gain proficiency when using Real Milk Paint, Minwax, Osmo, Odie’s Oil, Heritage Natural Finishes, and more.
Understand long-term care and maintenance of finished projects to preserve and protect your work.
Experiment with applying finishes to different species of wood, gaining insight into how finishes interact with various types of wood grain.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll have the skills and confidence to finish your projects with a professional, polished look that highlights the natural beauty of the wood.
