Introduction to Woodworking (Women and Non-Binary)

Program Description:
This is a beginner course specifically designed for individuals who identify as women and non-binary that want to learn the essentials of woodworking. These fundamentals will include understanding and using many of the shop machines and hand held power tools. The machines used include jointer, planer, table saw, miter saw, drill press and router. This course aims to create a safe learning environment for people with little to no experience in a woodshop. After four days, participants will bring home a wall hung cabinet designed by Mike Pekovich.
Learning Objectives:
Create a safe and productive environment to learn
Mill and square rough sawn lumber using a jointer and planer
Discuss and implement design and grain selection
Learn to set an order of operations and achievable daily goals for a project
Install hinges for a small cabinet door and discuss high quality hardware for furniture
Proficiency in use and setup of machines
Discussion of finishes
Attendance Requirements: Students must attend all days
