Craft Associates Furniture

Position: Lead Builder

Location: Oak Harbor OH

We are searching for an attentive, highly detailed and honest lead builder to oversee the creation of our furniture from start to finish (Starting with BertuHome and working into Craft Associates Furniture). To this end, the Cabinet Maker will be responsible for hand-picking the most suitable materials, constructing the pieces, and then applying / spraying the finishes. You should ensure adherence to our stylistic and technical requirements at all times.

To be successful within this position , you should be able to engage in physical activity for extended periods of time. Having the willingness to grow and get better every day knowing the importance of quality with every piece built. The ultimate goal is to create beautiful pieces that will stand the test of time and help facilitate our company's growth.

Head Builder Responsibilities:

• Running and setting up a new wood shop

• Making sure the flow of the shop makes sense for production

• Selecting the appropriate materials, fittings, and tools for each task.

• Planning an effective approach to work to ensure that each project is completed on time.

• Creating standard and custom components for all pieces within our line.

• Gathering the elements of each piece and assembling the final product.

• Applying commercial grade finishes to all pieces.

• Inspecting each completed item to ensure that it has been constructed accurately, and that the necessary finishes have been applied.

• Taking necessary precautions to remain safe.

• Advising on appropriate care for finished products upon request.

• Creating an environment for creative and constant improvement of product patterning.

Your Responsibilities

• Hand finish a wide range of wood and metal surfaces. We offer a wide range of finishes to our clients so if you enjoy variety in your work environment, you’ll excel as a part of this team.

• Be responsible for outstanding quality and attention to detail.

• Utilize a wide array of finishing techniques including, shading, staining, sealing, glazing, bleach, fill, topcoat, wax, patina, rub and paint.

• Maintain finishing equipment in safe, clean and outstanding working condition.

• Work constructively with a team of finishers and craftspeople in other departments to continuously drive improvement and solve problems.

Our Requirements

• An ideal candidate has experience with spray stain, wipe stain and glaze, shading, topcoat and lacquer applications.

• Strong communication skills and willingness to consistently improve.

• Demonstrated integrity and accountability, strive to keep commitments at all times.

• Must excel as a team player, asking questions, and ability to troubleshoot are all essential skills.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• 3-5 + years of experience finishing interior wood products preferred.

Qualifications and skills:

• 5-7 years of hands-on experience as a cabinet maker

• Ability to read technical documents and drawings.

• Excellent understanding of 32 mm cabinetry construction, assembly, and hardware installation

• Proficient ability to operate various hand and power tools such as edge banding equipment, line bore equipment, power sanders, circular saws, table saws, drills, routers, nail guns, and planers, along with laminating

• Strong detail and organizational skills.

• A plus to have finishing prep & spray experience, this is a well-rounded shop position.

Position: Business Owner/Successor

Woodcraft Inc was founded by me in 1996. We are a small but well reputed organization in Portland Oregon, doing business with two DBAs, Mark Newman Design in Wood, and Mark Newman Architectural Woodworking.

I am currently looking for an owner successor. I don’t plan to retire soon, but rather to work alongside you, the new employee, for a long enough period to mentor you into the position of new owner. I see a successful transition being achieved by integrating the new owner into the company culture as well as relationships with vendors and customers. There is the expectation that the new owner would make an investment in the company, take an active daily role in running it, as well as gain the approval of key employees. This is a winning and efficient combination because scheduling (balancing demand with production capacity) is the most difficult part of growth in this industry.
